Why We Use PTM7950 When Refurbishing Laptops

When we refurbish a laptop, the goal isn't just for it to look good and run well at the moment it's sold. The goal is for it to hold up well months and years into real use. Cooling is one of those parts a customer rarely sees, but directly feels - through fan noise and through how quickly the machine heats up under load.

That's why we started replacing the factory or aged thermal paste with a PTM7950 pad when refurbishing the laptops we process.

What we do

During refurbishing, we open the laptop and replace the existing thermal interface on the processor with PTM7950 - a phase-change thermal pad. This is a practice we introduced starting with our latest delivery batch.

If you're looking at a listed unit from our refurbished laptops you will see badge which shows that this unit is with PTM7950.

Why we chose PTM7950

Regular thermal paste, even good quality paste, degrades over time due to an effect called leaks-out - under repeated heating and cooling cycles it gradually shifts away from the highest-pressure area on the chip. In laptops this happens faster than in desktop PCs, because laptop coolers are thin and the mounting pressure on the chip is high.

PTM7950 is designed to stay in place far more reliably over time, because it isn't a liquid - it softens at operating temperature, fills the imperfections, and then stays pliable rather than leaking out sideways. For a laptop that's changing owners and will see active use, that means more predictable cooling over a longer period, without the new owner needing to think about repasting.

Which laptops it currently applies to

Right now we apply PTM7950 when refurbishing laptops from our newest delivery batch. Not every unit currently listed in the shop has been through this step - older listings reflect our previous process. Over time the practice will cover an increasing share of our stock.

What this means for you

If you buy a laptop from a batch processed with PTM7950, you don't pay extra for it - it's part of our standard refurbishing process, not a paid add-on. The point is more stable cooling under normal and heavier use, without surprises in the first months after purchase.
